Bomb hoax call keeps Malegaon and Surat police on toes

Surat: City police were on their toes following an input from Malegaon police of Maharashtra about a phone call that they had received regarding planting of a bomb in a bus on Saturday morning. A person had called police in Malegaon to inform them that a bomb had been planted in a private transport bus that plies between Malegaon and Surat.

Preliminary investigation by Malegaon police showed the person’s location to be in Surat and hence they alerted the city police about the caller.

The city police traced the person’s location at Delhi Gate based on his mobile phone number. His mobile phone remained switched off for a few hours until it became active in Malegaon.

City police control room had received the call at around 3.30am on Saturday. “We had received information about the caller, but were unable to locate him in the city. Surat police didn’t receive any bomb call, but Malegaon police had informed us about the caller’s location in the city,” said a police officer.

Police are collecting details about the person who had made the bomb hoax call. The call was made from the phone which is registered in the name of Swapnil Ansari.

PAKISTAN CARGO VESSEL’S CREW CHECKED AT HAZIRA

Police checked crew of Pakistan cargo vessel MV Hyderabad at Hazira on Saturday. The vessel had come to deliver limestone and its details were declared already. “There was nothing suspicious about the vessel. It had come to deliver cargo. We had information of a Pakistan vessel with Pakistan nationals aboard and therefore checked it,” said a police officer of Hazira police station. Police found 25 crew members aboard the ship.

“The vessel had come to Hazira from UAE and it returned after examination. The ship was originally from Pakistan,” the police officer added.
