Borivli to Goregaon on WEH takes two hours

Mumbai: Monday’s heavy downpour paralysed traffic movement in the morning hours, particularly on Western Express Highway . A truck that had climbed over the railing of Lalbaug flyover on Sunday night also disrupted south-bound traffic on Monday morning. Train services on all three lines, on the other hand, were largely unaffected.

The police shut an underpass from WEH to go towards Terminal 2 of the airport. This affected flyers headed to the airport. “For the first time in my life, I have missed a flight. The flight was at 1.10pm and I started as early as 9am. But at 1.40pm, I was still on the road,” tweeted Mayur Satyavrat. Motorists also complained that heavy vehicles used WEH when their movement was prohibited during peak hours.

Ravi Khatri, a motorist, tweeted that he took an hour to travel from Goregaon to Andheri on WEH. Another was stuck on its south-bound arm from 9am to 11am. “It took me two hours to travel from Borivali to Nesco,” tweeted Jack Thakkar, a motorist.

Congestion was reported on Santacruz-Chembur Link Road, LBS Marg at Kurla and Kanjurmarg, Eastern Express Highway, SV Road between Jogeshwari and Andheri, Marol towards Seepz, Ceaser Road in Andheri West, Veera Desai Road, between DN Nagar metro station and JVPD circle, Chakala to WEH junction.

Waterlogging in Elphinstone and Lower Parel also resulted in slow-moving traffic. A motorist said he took 80 minutes to travel from Chembur to Lower Parel against 35 minutes as is usual. Sushant Anaokar tweeted that he took 85 minutes from Dadar West to MIDC. BEST diverted a total of 37 bus routes at eight locations that were waterlogged. Some of the buses suffered breakdowns.
