Carpenter arrested for Firozabad double murder

Agra: A carpenter was arrested by Firozabad police on Friday in the sensational double murder of a paediatrician’s mother and sister-in-law in the city limits.

Identified as Dilip alias Deepak, the 25-year-old accused was working at victim’s house for the past two months to make furniture and repair wooden doors.

On Thursday morning, Dr L K Gupta’s mother Shiv Devi Gupta (72) and sister-in-law Rani Devi Gupta (29) were found with their throats slit inside their house in lane number four of New Rasoolpur colony of Rasoolpur police limits.

Superintendent of police (city) Firozabad Prabal Pratap Singh told TOI, “During a probe we came across CCTV footage in which the accused was seen entering the house. We caught him and then interrogated, after which he spilled the beans and claimed that he was trying to sneak into the house and take away some cash and valuables but Rani caught him red-handed. She confronted and slapped him, after which he slit her throat. Later, the accused slit Rani’s mother-in-law’s throat as she was a witness to the murder. The accused fled from the house’s back gate. Dilip was later caught after an encounter.”

During the incident, Rani’s one-year-old son was sleeping in a room, while her husband Amit Gupta, the younger brother of Dr L K Gupta was out for some work.

Dr Gupta is posted in a government hospital and lives with his wife and children in a different place.
