Central team in Tripura to study spike in number of Covid cases

AGARTALA: The central government on Thursday sent a three-member team to Tripura to study the root cause of coronavirus transmission among BSF personnel in a particular area in Dhalai district over the past week.


The team, led by professor G K Medhi of community medicine of NEIGRIHMS Shillong , will also assist the state health department for Covid-19 management.



State government spokesperson Ratan Lal Nath said the central team was scheduled to hold a video conferencing with Central Surveillance Authority in Delhi followed by a discussion with the state Covid management team. After visiting the Covid-hit areas, they would submit a report to the health and family welfare department of the state, along with suggestions, to strengthen the fight against coronavirus.

Alarmed by the sudden Covid outbreak at the BSF 138th headquarters, the state government had requested the Central Surveillance Team, Delhi, to send a team to the state to find out the root cause of the Covid outbreak, sources said.

A total of 12,000 Covid tests have been conducted in Tripura so far. A total of 155 samples tested positive, while 16 patients have recovered, Nath added. There has so far been no casualty to the disease in the state so far.
