'Centre's FCU flouts basic principle of natural justice'

Mumbai: Centre’s Fact Check Unit (FCU) rule to tag as ‘ fake , false or misleading’ content related to central govt’s actions violates the fundamental principle of natural justice that no man should be a judge in his own case, senior counsel Navroze Seervai told the Bombay high court on Thursday.

Arguing a constitutional challenge to the rule, in a petition filed by stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, Seervai said, “The rule deals with business of central govt,” and the panel is one set up by Centre.

He said the violation is “egregious” and needs to be set aside. The hearing will continue on Monday. TNN
