Chancellor Portal mandatory to admit students, RU tells colleges

Ranchi: The Ranchi University (RU) directed the colleges run by minority community organisations to enrol students in undergraduate and post graduates courses only through the Chancellor Portal from the upcoming academic session.

RU vice-chancellor Ajit Kumar Sinha on Friday told the principals of the colleges run by minority community organisations that they were free to conduct the admission procedure on the Chancellor Portal based on the criteria, including fees, decided upon by the authorities of the respective colleges.

The deputy director (vocational) and spokesperson of the RU, Smriti Singh, said, “The decision would bring uniformity in the admission process of the university. So far, the minority colleges were conducting the admission process based on their own schedule after declaring the results. This also led to uneven distribution of students among the colleges as minority colleges used to comduct the admissions early.”

The dean (Students’ Welfare), Sudesh Sahu, said it was mandatory for every college affiliated to the RU to enrol students through the Chancellor Portal. But the minority colleges were not following the rule, he added.

St Xavier’s College, Gossner’s College, Yogada Satsang College, Maulana Azad College, Nirmala College, and Torpa College are affiliated to the RU. The professor in-charge of Gossner’s College, Elani Purty, said, “The minority colleges would hold a meeting to decide on the issue.”
