Chandigarh: New plan for train trips from May 27

CHANDIGARH: A change in demand from migrant labourers has prompted the UT administration to chalk out a fresh plan for Shramik Special trains plying to different states from May 27.

It will be based on the number of migrant labourers left and the trains will have more stoppages. Yashpal Garg, secretary, social welfare, UT, said since last week the demand has changed.

Earlier, the plan was to have a single train for a specific district in the Uttar Pradesh or Bihar. Till May 26, the trains will ply as per the schedule, he said.

On Sunday, a Shramik Special train with 1,600 passengers departed for Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh at 2pm. As many as 29,290 people — 27,313 from trains and 1,977 from buses — have been sent to their native places.

On May 26, a train will leave for Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh with stoppages at Moradabad, Shahjahanpur, Bareilly and Hardoi. On May 27, a train will leave for Jaunpur with a stoppage in Sultanpur. Registered persons have been contacted on the mobile number with the request to reach polytechnic college, Sector 26 by 8am. Pregnant women, children, handicapped people and senior citizens will be accommodated on priority, said officials, adding that those who have not received the call should not come to the centre.
