Chemical powder spills on road after truck accident in Thane; no one injured

THANE: A truck transporting a chemical powder was involved in an accident in Thane district, Maharashtra, resulting in a spill on the road and briefly disrupting traffic, according to civic officials on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at 11.42 pm on Monday at Kalyan Phata, and no injuries were reported, as stated by Yasin Tadvi, the chief of Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell.


The truck, carrying 25 tonnes of phthalic anhydride, was en route from Taloja in Navi Mumbai to Dahej in Gujarat when it collided with another truck and tilted to one side. Around three tonnes of the chemical spilled onto the road.

The spillage caused traffic disruption on the road for about half an hour. Firefighters from the local department and the regional disaster management cell team promptly arrived at the scene. They successfully cleared the road of the spilled chemical, the official reported.

Phthalic anhydride finds application in a wide range of industries, including the production of plastics, synthesis of resins, manufacturing of agricultural fungicides, and creation of amines.
