Chennai: 65-year-old convict kills self at Institute of Mental Health

CHENNAI: A 65-year-old life convict in a murder case, who had been undergoing treatment at Institute of Mental Health in Ayanavaram, committed suicide on Wednesday night. Rajammal, of Erode district , was lodged in Vellore Central Prison. Eight months ago, she was admitted to IMH when she showed signs of depression.

Rajammal on Wednesday hanged herself using a rope from the hospital window, police said. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Rajammal was recovering well, but was upset as her relatives didn't visit her at IMH.
