Chennai: Drunk Cabbie Pushes Retired Cop To Ground, Latter Dies While Battling For Life

Chennai: A retired Sub-Inspector sustained head injuries after a drunk cab driver picked up a fight with him, and pushed him. The 69-year-old man sustained head injuries in the incident that took place at Selaiyur on Friday. After battling for life for two days, the senior citizen succumbed to his injuries in a hospital on Sunday.

The police have arrested the accused, while a probe has been launched in the matter.

The police have charged the driver, Sivaraman (29) with murder. He belonged to Appupattu village in Tiruvannamalai district. Around 9 pm on Friday, the accused was found lying outside the house of Krishnamoorthy, the victim, a media report stated. Krishnamoorthy used to live with his 60-year-old wife Jayasandileeswari at Rajayyar Street in Selaiyur.

On the day of the incident, a few neighbours of Krishnamoorthy informed him that a man was lying outside his home. When he checked, Krishnamoorthy saw Sivaraman was lying in the middle of the road. The elderly feared that an accident may occur. Therefore, he brought water from inside his house and poured it on Sivaraman.

As soon as the accused gained consciousness, he started an argument with him. Then, he pushed Krishnamoorthy to the ground, leaving the elderly injured.

Family of the victim rushed for his rescue. They took Krishnamoorthy to the Chromepet govt hospital, while the neighbours caught Sivaraman. They handed the accused over to the police, reported Times of India.

Following the probe, it was found out that Sivaraman was working as a cab driver in Chennai. As the accused was in an inebriated condition, he parked his car alongside the road, and slept outside the house of the elderly victim.

After being arrested, the accused was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
