City MP warns SCR of agitation

Aurangabad: City MP Imtiaz Jaleel on Wednesday warned of severe agitation against the South Central Railway ( SCR ) across Marathwada if the pressing and pending demands of the region for better rail connectivity are ignored again.

“People of Marathwada have suffered a lot because of the indifferent attitude of the SCR.

Hence, if the long-pending demands of the region are not met then all MPs from the region will resort to agitation,” he said while speaking at a crucial railway meeting in Nanded.

In a memorandum submitted to the SCR, Jaleel stressed on the need for development of Aurangabad railway station as model station, creating a pit line that will facilitate new trains and more trains originating from the city. The MIM leader also demanded new rail line on the Aurangabad-Chalisgaon and Aurangabad-Ahmednagar routes besides stoppage of major trains at Mukundwadi, Rotegaon and Lasur stations.

Speaking on the occasion, Hingoli MP Hemant Patil also expressed disappointment over some of the key demands of the region being neglected by the SCR. The Sena leader sought new train to Mumbai, and extension of Mumbai-Manmad Rajya Rani Express train, among various other demands. Patil also sought an explanation from the railways about alleged delay in doubling of tracks and electrification works in Nanded division.

Earlier, SCR general manager Gajanan Mallya briefed the MPs about the performance of the zone and various steps initiated for improving the passenger amenities.

“The general manager also updated MPs about the works taken for improvement at stations, RUB/ROB works, elimination of manned level crossing gates in a phased manner, electrification works and proposals for stoppages,” Ch Rakesh, SCR chief public relations officer, said.

“Deliberations in the meeting with MPs would immensely help the railways in finalizing the railway developmental plans for the people of this region. The suggestions and views expressed by the MPs would be given due considerations while formulating the proposals,” an SCR official said.
