City reported 4k heat-related emergencies in the last 18 days

Ahmedabad: With the temperature hovering around 40°C for the last two days, there is a significant increase in the heat-related medical emergencies in the city. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Friday released details of various types of medical emergency cases related to heatwave conditions registered in the April 1-18 period.

The data shows that the 108 emergency services registered 3,865 heat-related cases in the last 18 days, of which 786 were of fainting due to heat, 1,512 cases of abdominal pain, and 881 of vomiting and diarrhoea. Apart from this, 569 cases of high fever, 117 of severe headache were registered. On average, around 200 heat-related cases are being registered in the city every day.


The data provided by the 108 emergency services and released by the AMC showed that the highest number of cases were registered on April 2, with 114 cases of abdominal pain registered on the day.

Apart from this, 881 cases of vomiting and diarrhoea have been registered, of which a maximum of 60 cases have been registered on April 13 and 15. Apart from this, more than 40 cases of vomiting and diarrhoea are being registered daily on average. In the last 18 days, 569 cases of high fever were registered, of which the highest number of cases, 49, were registered on April 3. During the same period, 786 cases of fainting were registered, with the highest number of 58 cases on April 16.

The city civic body expects temperatures may rise further in May and it may order the closure of construction sites during the afternoon hours, sources said.
