Collector urged to recruit more staffers for Tirupati civic body

Tirupati: Chittoor district collector Dr Narayana Bharat Gupta and Tirupati municipal commissioner PS Girisha inspected sanitation works at various places in the temple city of Tirupati on Sunday morning.

Girisha brought to the district collector’s notice that though several major panchayats were merged with the Tirupati municipal corporation over the years, sufficient sanitation staff was not recruited.

He told the district collector that an additional strength of at least 300 sanitation workers had to be immediately engaged to ensure the temple city is kept tidy.

Bharat Gupta assured that he would look into the issue and called upon the municipality to ensure the temple city raises to the top of the rankings under the Swachh Survekshan programme.

During the inspections, the district collector directed municipal authorities to serve notices to the owners or tenants of vacant plots where garbage pile-up was noticed. He also directed the concerned authorities to clear off encroachments from footpaths near the Iskcon Road. They inspected garbage collection process at Satyanarayanapuram, Khadi Colony and some other places.

Bharat Gupta called upon the civic officials to create an awareness among citizens on the importance of setting-up bio-compost sites at independent homes as well as apartment buildings in the city which would help produce organic fertilisers.
