Cong: Centre, AAP 'neglecting' farmers

Chandigarh: The Punjab Congress strongly criticised both BJP-led central govt and AAP govt in Punjab for neglecting the concerns of farmers and the environment, especially in terms of mining. The party asserted that the people of Punjab are demanding answers from the leadership of the BJP and AAP regarding these two issues.

The party’s state unit launched a campaign in which it will raise a question pertaining to Punjab every day. These questions will be directed towards both the state govt and the central govt, seeking their responses and accountability on various issues concerning the state. While addressing mediapersons, former cabinet minister Pargat Singh said the intention of BJP towards farmers can be gauged from the steps taken in the last 10 years, which are totally anti-farmers. He further stated that the state govt has also adopted the same behaviour towards farmers. Lashing out at both govts for failing to provide the minimum support price (MSP) to farmers as promised by them, Pargat Singh said that BJP and AAP have failed miserably. He further held that Congress has promised to provide MSP in its manifesto and it will be implemented after the party comes to power. Pargat also criticised the state govt for failing to check illegal mining. tnn
