Cong workers thrash party supporter after Jyotiraditya Scindia's wallet goes missing

BHOPAL: Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia’s supporters seem to have become an easy prey for pickpockets!

With their wallets gone at Gwalior railway station on Sunday, frustrated Congress workers rouged up a man mistaking him for a pickpocket and handed him over to police. The ‘suspect’ later turned out to be a Congress worker who had gone to welcome Scindia .

The incident took place in the morning when some Congress workers found their wallets missing during a melee over greeting Scindia with flowers.

One person identified as Dharmendra Sharma, was beaten up by the Congress workers who accused him of digging their pockets. When police detained him, Congress leader Sanjay Sharma intervened and said it was a case of mistaken identity.

Sanjay Sharma told police that Dharmendra is a dedicated Congress worker and not a pickpocket as suspected by his colleagues in the party. The matter was later resolved at the police station. Sources said there have been several instances where Congress workers were targeted during Scindia’s meeting.

More than 15 mobile phones and Rs40,000 cash were reported stolen by pickpockets during a roadshow at Lucknow in February where Congress national president Rahul Gandhi and general secretary of Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were present along with Scindia.

Pickpockets had also targeted Scindia’s meeting at Shivpuri last year where many party workers lost their valuables. As per police complaint, valuables worth nearly Rs5 lakh were also stolen during Scindia’s roadshow in Kolaras area in March last year.
