Congress election campaign in Rajasthan kicks off today

JAIPUR: Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) would launch its campaign for the Lok Sabha elections from Sikar and Tonk districts on Thursday. Chief minister Ashok Gehlot, deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot and AICC general secretary Avinash Pande would address public assemblies in Laxmangarh (Sikar) and Niwai (Tonk) to mark the beginning of party’s poll campaign in the state.

In the coming days, the ruling party would hold 75 big rallies and 400 block-level rallies across the state prior to the polls on April 29 and May 6.


Congress senior leaders, including Pande, Gehlot and Pilot, discussed election strategies at the party’s coordination committee meeting held at the PCC headquarters on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by some cabinet and state ministers as well as few candidates who aspire to contest the Lok Sabha elections on Congress ticket.

“We have decided to hold 400 rallies across the state, covering all the blocks before the elections. Public welfare decisions taken by the Congress government in the state will be propagated at these rallies,” Pande told reporters after the coordination committee meeting. Chief Minister Gehlot said the outgoing Modi-government was trying to hide its failures be raising sensitive issues related to religion and armed forces’ actions. “Congress president Rahul Gandhi has challenged the Prime Minister to talk on poll issues like problems of farmers and youth and on corruption in Rafale deal,” Gehlot said.
