Cops sacked for helping undertrials flee

Pune: The police on Saturday dismissed two constables posted at Shivajinagar headquarters for helping three criminals escape from custody in April 2017. Additional commissioner of police (crime) Ashok Morale issued the dismissal orders.

According to the order, the two constables had taken three undertrials to the Khandala court in Satara for a hearing on April 10, 2017.

On their return trip to Pune, the police escort with the undertrials halted in the old Katraj ghat section, where the latter got into a private vehicle and went to Pimpri. The order stated that the criminals assured the constables that they would return to Vishrantwadi, where they were to be picked up.

When they didn’t turn up, the constables went back to the Katraj ghat section and informed the police control room that the three suspects gave them the slip and filed a fake, misleading complaint later that day.
