Covid-19: 59 new cases in Manipur, total at 2,235

IMPHAL: Manipur recorded 59 new cases in the last 24 hours, taking the state's count up to 2,235. With 1,521 patients having recovered across the state, Manipur currently has 714 active cases, a health department statement read on Sunday.

The government has intensified action to stop local transmission, it added.

In Thoubal district , active case search among 6,475 people was completed and 10 new cases were detected. In Churachandpur district , 545 contacts of an employee of a private lab were identified and 143 of them have tested negative and results of the remaining are awaited, the statement said.

Social distancing, wearing masks, cough etiquette and avoiding unnecessary travel are scientifically proven and effective means to prevent Covid-19 pandemicthe health department's spokesperson Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang said.

Meanwhile, a National Health Mission (NHM) staffer working at the Covid-19 common control room opened at the CM's secretariat in Imphal tested positive for the virus late on Saturday. Health authorities have tested all employees of the secretariat and all results have come back negative, sources said on Sunday.
