Covid-19: Haryana doubling rate up, cases go from 500 to 1,000 in 15 days

CHANDIGARH: It took 49 days to reach the figure of 500 and just a fortnight to cross 1,000 Covid-19 cases in Haryana, according to the daily bulletin released by health department .

On Thursday, the corona count registered 1,031 with a recovery rate of 66.05% . Till Friday morning, the number stood at 1,043 and was expected to go up by evening.



Haryana saw first Covid-19 patient on March 17 and on May 4, it completed the 500 mark. A large number of cases — 120 — were Jamaat returnees.

Since May 4, the state saw a major spike due to its pr ximity to New Delhi. And the affected districts include Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, Jhajjar , Panipat, Karnal. Mahendergarh, Rewari, Nuh, Faridabad and Fatehabad. Initially, for eight to 10 weeks, some of these districts had reported not even a single case.

Haryana’s health minister Anil Vij confirmed the spurt in cases and said the 70 cases of NCR were linked to New Delhi and vegetable market. Vij expressed concern as restrictions were being lifted slowly.

“But we have put all measures in place. Now, it is a matter of self protection and discipline, as we have to learn to live with it. We have provided the best services and our health teams and administration is always prepared. We are hopeful of keeping this pandemic under control now,’’ said the health minister.
