CPI canvasses for Nara in Inner Manipur seat

IMPHAL: The CPI, which is is the first political party in the state to name a candidate for the coming Lok Sabha election, is actively canvassing for its nominee, Moirangthem Nara Singh, for the Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency.

Though the CPI could not win even a single seat in the last two assembly polls, the Left party has exuded confidence of grabbing the Inner seat and regain its lost ground.

Covering Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur and parts of Thoubal district , the Inner Manipur seat will go to the polls on April 18. The Outer Manipur seat covering the hill districts will go to the polls on April 11.

"Unlike BJP and Congress, which spend a huge amount of money in holding poll rallies, we only conduct village and local-level meetings," CPI state secretary Laishram Sotinkumar said on Saturday.

A homoeopathic doctor, Nara was elected to the assembly thrice from the Wangjing Tentha constituency in Thoubal district on a CPI ticket. Though Wangjing Tentha is a stronghold of CPI, the constituency falls under Outer Manipur.
