CPI state foundation day celebrations from October 20

PATNA: The state CPI is to celebrate its 80th foundation day for three days from October 20 . Party’s general secretary D Raja, along with other invitees from the Left parties, would address the main function to be held at Janshakti Bhavan here on Wednesday.

The old-timers recall that the news regarding the formation of CPI state unit was announced through the distribution of leaflets on January 26, 1940.

Sunil Mukherjee was chosen its first state secretary at Munger.

As to the build-up for the main function to be held at Patna , CPI cadres and sympathizers would decorate their district, circle and branch (panchayat) level offices in the state on Sunday. They would also display the party’s flags on their private houses.

“It would be followed by a function to be held at Munger on Monday,” CPI state secretariat member Jabbar Alam said, adding that state secretary Satyanarayan Singh and former JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar , recently inducted into the national executive committee, would address the meet.

At the main function, all the surviving leaders and functionaries of the party from across the state who have been its members till 1960 would be felicitated. However, the CPI would also honour former CPM state secretary Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi (95), who is the seniormost Left member from within the CPI, CPM and CPI(ML). “Since his birth in 1924, Vidyarthi has lived through the period when the party’s state unit was first formed (1939) and then the 1964 split into CPI and CPM at the national and state levels in the country,” Alam said.
