Dakshina Kannada: School heads asked to submit building fitness certificates

Mangaluru: District minister Kota Srinivas Poojary directed the deputy director of public instructions, Dakshina Kannada, to obtain school building fitness certificates from heads of all institutions in the flood-hit areas of the district.

A decision in this regard was taken to prepare a safety audit on school buildings in flood-hit taluks.

A circular will be issued to all junior engineers in the gram panchayats to conduct inspection of school buildings in their jurisdictions.

At a review meet on flood damage held at the deputy commissioner’s office here on Thursday, the minister said school heads in flood-hit areas should personally verify the condition of buildings and certify whether they are safe or not. “School heads also may conduct building verification through junior engineers of respective gram panchayats. A circular in this regard should be issued,” Poojary said.

According to the department of public instructions, 222 schools were damaged due to floods and heavy rain.
