Deputy Commissioner Bats For Making Jalandhar A Vector Borne Disease Free District

Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Kulwant Singh today asked the key departments to initiate a major drive for making Jalandhar a dengue, chickengunia, malaria and other vector borne diseases free district.Presiding over a meeting here at the District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner today asked the Municipal Corporation Jalandhar (MCJ), Health, Rural Development and Panchayat and Local Government department to start a major drive for checking the spread of these Vector Borne Diseases in the district.

He said that the places vulnerable for producing the larva of mosquitoes must be identified well in advance and action must be taken by the Health and MCJ authorities in this regard. Mr. Kulwant Singh said that a joint team comprising of the Health department and the civic body must hold door-to-door survey in this regard and check the places were larva was breeding due to the callousness of the owners in form storage of water in air-coolers or other waste items of the house.The Deputy Commissioner said that special inspection of the Government offices must also be undertaken in this regard to ensure that breeding ground was not provided to mosquitoes in air-coolers, old/ worn out utensils and others.
He said that the district administration was firmly committed for tackling this menace to ensure good health of the residents. Mr. Kulwant Singh further said that elaborate arrangements need to made for tackling these vector borne diseases well in advance. Mr. Kulwant Singh said that 1047 cases of Dengue were reported in year 2015, 580 in 2016, 455 in 2017 and 704 in 2018 adding that efforts must be made to completely wipe out these diseases from district.Batting for a vigorous awareness campaign to tackle the disease, the Deputy Commissioner said that people must be apprised that mosquitoes carrying dengue and chickengunia bites in day time.
Likewise, he said that more and more information must be spread amongst people to make them aware about these diseases.On the occasion Deputy Commissioner accompanied by Civil Surgeon Dr. Gurinder Kaur Chawla also launched the awareness posters for this campaign.Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included Civil Surgeon Dr. Gurinder Kaur Chawla, District Epidemiologists Dr Satish Kumar, Dr Shobhna Bansal and other officers were also present.
