Digvijaya Singh vs Sadhvi Pragya: Congress leader skips voting in Rajgarh, tours Bhopal with Computer Baba

Bhopal: Veteran Congress leader and Lok Sabha candidate from the Bhopal constituency, Digvijaya Singh, today sparked a fresh controversy after revealing that he skipped casting his vote in the ongoing 2019 general elections. It is to be noted here that Singh votes in his home constituency of Rajgarh, which is roughly 300 kilometres away from Bhopal.

The Congress stalwart was seen touring the city since morning as Bhopal went to polls today in the sixth phase of polling and Singh was seen doing a footmarch and roadshow with the party’s star campaigner Computer Baba.

When he was asked earlier in the day whether he would go to cast his vote, Singh had said “he will try”. However, as the day neared its end, he confirmed, “Yes, I couldn’t go to vote in Rajgarh and I regret it. I will register my name in Bhopal next time.”

This could trigger a massive row as this is apparently the first time Singh hasn’t voted in his adult life and some claim it’s his ‘greed for victory’ that made him skip his Constitutional right.

Elections in Bhopal is being touted as a straight fight between Singh and Bharatiya Janata Party’s Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, who is an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blasts case.

Both leaders have held several public meetings and rallies in the run-up to the elections, launching verbal attacks against each other and playing the Hindutva card during their campaign gatherings.

Bhopal has been a BJP stronghold for decades as the seat has been held by the party since 1989. The Congress had last successfully contested the Lok Sabha elections from Bhopal in 1984.
