Dindori registers maximum deletion of electoral names

Nashik: Dindori assembly constituency has so far deleted 6,180 names of the voters list after they had requested for the same during the special summary revision of electoral roll that was carried out recently.

The Dindori assembly constituency received 6196 requests for deletion of names out of which 6180 were accepted.

The rest are either in process or were rejected. “The number of rejections of the applications is the least so far, this also points out the awareness among the electors about the process. This is a welcome step towards achieving 100 percent data purification as expected by the Election Commission of India,” a senior officer from the district administration said.

The same was followed by Sinnar assembly constituency where the administration received 9607 application for deletion of names out of which 5532 were accepted and a whopping 3953 were rejected. Large number of deletion in Dindori constituency was because of reasons like people passing away, name appearing twice etc. Another reason for duplication of names was because of people having farms in one village and residing in another.

The election machinery was asked to verify the names of people properly – especially in case of duplicate entries and that resulted in ensuring deletion of names. The booth level officers (BLOs), who were given the task of verifying every name, came out with the excellent results thus filing the requests under claims and objections. The citizens themselves also contributed for the same.

In case of Sinnar, which recorded the highest rejection of the applications, were because of reasons like shifting from one location to another and hence there were requests by the BLOs as well as the electors in general. “However when panchanamas were carried out it appeared that the claims and objections did not hold water and hence the objections were rejected,” the officer said.

In Nashik East assembly constituency, 1168 applications were rejected and only 554 were accepted. “The numbers of rejection outnumbers the numbers of applications accepted and we are looking into the reasons for the same. There are always higher chances of duplicate entries or the retention of the names of the dead electors in the urban areas as in rural areas the people know each other very well and their attempts of bogus voting are defeated by the locals. Since the numbers of rejection is higher, we are looking into the same,” another officer said.
