DM issues guidelines to protect cows

Lucknow: With the heatwave building across large parts of the country and likely to hit the city as well, the district administration on Tuesday released a set of guidelines for the protection of cattle housed across various cow shelters in the city.

DM Surya Pal Gangwar directed the officials of the livestock department and the management of the cow shelters to make necessary arrangements to protect the cattle from the onset of heatwave.

The directions from the DM come a day after the state govt issued a directive, asking all the district magistrates to ensure that cow shelters falling within their jurisdiction are well-equipped to provide necessary protection to the cattle from the heatwave. The directions issued include ensuring that all cows are provided with shelter over their head and are not exposed to direct sunlight, covering them with gunny bags, regular monitoring and health check-ups to detect early signs of heatwave-related health issues, availability of clean and fresh drinking water, proper fire safety mechanism, uninterrupted supply of electricity, among others.
