DMDK plans state-level conference in Tirupur on September 15

Chennai : Actor Vijayakant’s DMDK party, which drew a blank in the recent Lok Sabha elections after being part of the AIADMK led alliance, plans to hold a state level conference of the party at Tirupur on September 15. The conference will celebrate the party entering its 15th year, having been launched on September 14, 2005, will be used to relaunch the party’s activities across the state.



“We plan to host the state-level conference as a ‘Mupperum Vizha’ – party’s founders day, Vijayakant’s birthday (August 25) and distributing welfare measures to the needy. We expect a huge crowd as party cadres from the across the state will participate in the Tirupur conference,” DMDK deputy secretary R Parthasarathy told TOI.

DMDK president Vijayakant’s birthday, which was on Sunday, was celebrated with enthusiasm in the presence of cadres at the party’s headquarters here. Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam and TMC president G K Vasan extended their greetings to the alliance party’s leader. Vijayakant , who has been facing health-related issues for quite sometime, and his wife and party treasurer Premalatha were present along with senior party functionaries. “He is fine and healthy, except for the throat for which he is undertaking treatment. He will recover from that problem too soon,” Parthasarathy said.

According to him, soon after the elections, the party leadership held meetings with all district secretaries and other district level functionaries and up to zonal level office bearers. “We discussed all issues concerning the party and identified areas that needs to be addressed. The cadres continue to be with the party and the forthcoming Tirupur conference will kickstart the party into much more active mode,” Parthasarathy said.
