Don't harass hubby, Bettiah girl tells dad

Patna: A Bettiah girl has uploaded a video on the social media appealing therein to her father not to harass her husband whom she married on her own volition or else she would lodge a complaint to the police .

The video which has gone viral on the social media is similar to the one made by the daughter of a UP BJP MLA, Sakshi Mishra, who, too, had married a boy from other caste in recent times.



The Bettiah girl, who belongs to an upper caste, got married to one Nitesh Yadav (29). The bridegroom runs a grocery shop in the Chhawni locality of Bettiah, the district headquarters of West Champaran. He belongs to other backward classes category. The girl apprehends threat to her and her husband’s lives after her family members allegedly threatened to eliminate them.

The Kalibagh police had registered a kidnapping case on the statement of her father on July 23. In the video, the girl shows her ‘Aadhaar card’ to prove her age. “We are adults and not minors. We are aware of the repercussions of our decision. If any untoward incident happens to us or the family members of my husband, you will be held responsible,” she warned her parents in the video.

The groom also appealed to his ‘in-laws’ to stop harassing his family and acquaintances.

“If you don’t stop harassing us, we will seek the help of police and the media to set things right,” he says in the video.

Kalibagh police outpost SHO Manish Kumar said, “We are aware of the video and looking into the matter.” He, however, said the police would assist the couple as per the law. “Both are adults. If they turn up at the police station, we will get the girl’s statement recorded in a court under Section 164 of CrPC,” Manish told this newspaper over phone on Sunday.

The girl’s father had lodged a case against Nitesh and his close relatives under sections 365, 366 and 370 of IPC. Her family members, however, refused to make any comment on the issue. On being pestered, the father said, “Talk to the police officers concerned.”

Recently, a video showing Sakshi Mishra and her husband Ajitesh Kumar had gone viral on social media. The couple had apprehended threat to their lives as it is an intercaste marriage.
