DSP suicide: CBI clears former Karnataka minister KJ George, two IPS officers

BENGALURU: In a relief to former home minister and Congress leader KJ George and two senior IPS officers, Central Bureau of Investigation has given them a clean chit in the case pertaining to suicide of DSP SK Ganapathy .

The agency, which probed the suicide following a 2017 Supreme Court directive, submitted a closure report before the trial court in Madikeri .

Besides George, who was home minister when Ganapathy was found dead at a lodge in Madikeri on July 7, 2016, IPS officers Pronab Mohanty and AM Prasad were also named as accused in the case.

Before hanging himself, Ganapathy had given an interview to a TV channel alleging that George and his superiors - Prasad and Mohanty - were constantly harassing him and they would be responsible if something happened to him.

However, CB I said the DySP was under severe mental stress and upset because of personal problems, and that was the cause for his suicide.

Mohanty is deputy directory-general, Unique Identification Authority of India, while Prasad is DGP, Internal Security Division.
