ED provisionally attaches Rs 7.3 crore property amassed by Brajesh Thakur

PATNA: The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday provisionally attached movable and immovable property worth of Rs 7.3 crore amassed by Brajesh Thakur who is the prime accused in the Muzaffarpur shelter home case . The case is presently investigated by Central Bureau of Investigation.


ED sources said that while some of the properties were directly on name of Thakur, some were registered on name of his mother Manorama Devi and son Mehul Anand.

They said these movable and immovable properties were located mostly in Muzaffarpur while some were located in Samastipur.

“Several of the properties amassed from ill-gotten money earned by Thakur were on name of his NGO named Seva Sankalp Ewan Vikash Samiti,” sources said.

It was the same NGO which was running the children home were at least 34 of 44 minor girls were raped over a period of time.

They said attached immovable properties is of worth Rs 6.5 crore while among movable properties there are three four-wheeler including one SUV worth around RS 28.7 lakh, bank account deposits worth of Rs 48.77 lakh and investments in mutual funds and policies worth of Rs 17.5 lakh.

“Of the immovable properties, there were altogether 24 land plots in Muzaffarpur and on 12 of them, there were residential constructions. One of the constructions include Hotel RM Palace on his son’s name. One flat worth around Rs 50 lakh was attached in housing society at Agamkuan. One more plot was there in Samastipur town on which there was residential construction too,” sources said.

They said that most of the immovable properties in Muzaffarpur were located in town area.

“Estimated value of all the immovable properties attached were at least worth of Rs 20 crore in open market,” sources said.

They said that these movable and immovable properties were amassed from money whose legitimate sources could not be explained or established by Thakur during the course of investigation by ED.

Thakur, till time of landing behind bars after cropping up of his name in the children home rape case, was running several children and shelter homes across state.

Thakur, presently lodged in Patiala jail on Supreme Court order, was arrested and sent to jail on June 3 last year after an FIR was lodged with women’s police station in Muzaffarpur on May 31, 2018. The case was transferred to a Saket Court in Delhi from Muzaffarpur on Supreme Court's direction in February this year.
