England star Lauren Hemp signs new deal in major win for Manchester City

England star Lauren Hemp has signed a new three-year deal with Manchester City Women.

Speculation has swirled around the 23-year-old's future with her previous contract set to expire this summer. The winger has amassed interest from a number of European clubs including Spanish giants and reigning Champions League

winners Barcelona.

In recent years, the Euro 2022 winner has established herself as one of women's football's most exciting prospects in the game and certainly one of the Women's Super League's most thrilling talents. Since her move to Manchester from Bristol City in 2018, Hemp has clocked up 157 appearances for the club and scored 65 goals.

She's helped City to two Women's FA Cup trophies and a pair Women's League Cup trophies while also laying claim to the PFA Women's Young Player of the Year winner on multiple occasions. With England, Hemp has accrued 55 international caps while lifting a first major trophy in the team's history and reaching a first-ever World Cup final last summer.

After winning a first major trophy with England and seeing her stock rise exponentially in the last year, Hemp has been open about her desire to compete at the highest level and win more silverware. Hemp has been integral to City's spike in form this season which sees them contending for a first league title in eight years as they push reigning league champions Chelsea to the brink.

And with City displaying the aptitude and ambition to do so this season, Hemp has put pen to paper on a new deal in a major win for City.

On her new three-year contract, Hemp said in a statement: “This is a special team. I want to take my game to the next level, and I feel like I’m capable of doing that here. The WSL is the best league to be in.

“I feel at home here in Manchester. With the squad we have here, we are always learning and it’s so special to be involved at a Club where we’re capable of achieving anything.

“I’m so passionate about this Club and there’s no place I’d rather be. I’m very excited to keep this journey going for the next few years.”

On the new deal, Manchester City Director of Football Nils Nielsen said: "We are all so proud of Lauren and what she has already achieved in the six years she’s been with us – but we know there is so much more to come.

“Lauren is fearless, hardworking and one of the game’s brightest young talents. What she has achieved in such a short career is incredible, and we can’t wait to see what the next few years hold for us a team and her as a player.

“The natural talent, ability and determination Lauren possesses is obvious, and we feel that she can become one of the best players in the world. We’ve only just scratched the surface of what she can do.”

Head coach Taylor added: “Lauren is an outstanding player and I’m looking forward to continuing the journey we started together four years ago.

“The growth she has shown has been incredible, and we know that she will continue to bring great things to the team for the next three years. There’s so much more to come and we’re really pleased that Lauren has extended her stay with the Club.”
