Commentary
  • 2 points apiece for Afghanistan and Bangladesh! Sparks will fly when they meet on Sunday, for that is the next match in the series. Zimbabwe, with 2 wins in 2 games, are on the verge of being knocked out but if the loser of Sunday continues to lose and Zimbabwe win their remaining games, they might still have an outside chance. Join us on 15th September, 2019 at 6.30 pm local (1230 GMT) for a highly anticipated cracker. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
  • Victorious Afghan captain, Rashid Khan too, thanks the almighty for helping him win his first T20I as a captain. Praises his bowlers and batsmen and even the debutant, Rahmanullah Gurbaz. on Afghanistan enjoying the T20 format, Rashid feels that the team can adjust to any format and not necessarily one particular type. Goes on to say that even if they play T20s for a while and then suddenly switch to a 4-day game, the players adjust accordingly. On his own bowling variations, Rashid says that he usually prefers bowling his overs from 9-18 but says that he does not do anything different from other bowlers. Though, he adds that he tries to change the pattern but using different grips, different releases and even changing his pace.
  • NAJIBULLAH ZADRAN HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. Thanks the almighty and says that he loves playing in Bangladesh, as he plays a lot of cricket here. On his stand with Nabi, Najib thanks his captain for giving him a chance to bat higher the order. Adds that the target was initially to bat sensibly till the 16th over and then then go berserk in the last 4. Stresses that the reason for that was the wicket being on the slower side, hence, a batsman had to take his time to settle in. Once in, he could play his shots.
  • Zimbabwe skipper, Hamilton Masakadza, says that it was a bit of a disappointing day and the only positive to come out was the batting display late in the game and the comeback by his spinners in the middle overs of the game. Praises his tweakers for bringing his side back into the contest but laments the mauling at the death by Najibullah Zadran and Nabi. Admits that the execution at the back end with the ball is a worry but assures that the guys are trying their level best.
  • Earlier in the evening, Afghanistan teed off in the format they enjoy the most. It was a different player though. Hazratullah Zazai usually goes bang bang but it was the debutant Rahmanullah Gurbaz who did the damage. His 24-ball 43 set the tone for a good total but then that carnage from Najibullah and Nabi took the game. Their century stand blew the Zimbabweans off and at one stage, 7 sixes were scored off 7 balls in succession. Please stay tuned for the presentation...
  • Not under any pressure necessarily, but the Afghans did well with the ball. Fareed Ahmad showed the value of a left-arm seamer in the sport, pricing out two wickets while Rashid strut his stuff with 2 of his own. The others were fairly decent too.
  • Chasing 198 was never going to be easy, even though Brendan Taylor did get some firecrackers going. But there was barely any support from the other end. Eventually, the pressure got to him and he departed too. Zimbabwe were reeling at 44/4 and the match was almost over at that stage. Mutombodzi, Burl and Chakabva tried to inject some momentum into the run chase and managed to push the total beyond 150. A good score batting first but way too less in this run chase.
  • Easy peasy for Afghanistan. They maintain their clean chit over Zimbabwe in this format. 8 matches played, all 8 won. Superb in the past, excellent here again.

F Ahmad to K Jarvis, CAUGHT? DROPPED? Nope. SIX. A high full toss, around middle, Jarvis looks to clear long on but does not quite hit it cleanly. The ball takes the toe end of the bat and lobs towards long on. Asghar Afghan takes the catch but then realizes that he is going behind. Throws the ball back into play but immediately signals six. The umpires check for the replays and sure enough, while going back, Afghan's left leg touched the ropes. They check for the no ball as well but replays deem it fine.

F Ahmad to R Chakabva, SAFE! Full delivery on middle, Chakabva looks to play a slog sweep but gets a top edge which goes way up in the air behind the stumps. The keeper, the fielder from third man and the fielder from fine leg converge but the ball falls just short of them. The batsmen pick up a couple.
