Commentary

  • Andy Balbirnie says this win means everything to them. Adds last year was disappointing but the coach changed, many things changed and it worked for them. Shares that they are in a good position and are ready to make more upset further now. Tells Paul Stirling is one of the best better, even Lorcan Tucker played well. Ends by saying it is a proud day for them.
  • Nicholas Pooran says it's tough and accepts they have not batted well in the tournament. Congratulates the Ireland performance. Adds there are many positives and it is a learning experience for them. They are disappointed with how things went and this defeat hurts them.
  • Gareth Delany is the Player of the Match. He says it is an incredible day. Last year they had a tough time but they are happy this time that they have done in some fashion. Adds the spin bowling coach came up with the plan and it worked for them. Shares the players put their hands up and have contributed well.
  • ...Presentations next...
  • The spinners were getting more purchases on the pitch and West Indies came up with just one, Akeal Hosein. The pacers were taken to the cleaners. Right from the start, West Indies were on the back foot and there was never a moment where the Windies thought they had a chance. A poor performance from them overall.
  • West Indies opted to bat first and it turned out to be a very bad decision. Apart from Brandon King, no one turned up with the bat. They finished with a below par score and Ireland made a mockery of it. Paul Stirling, who was having one of the worst years with the bat, turned his form around and played one of his most important innings. Lorcan Tucker supported him and played brilliant innings as well. A comprehensive win and a proud day for the Irish people to remember.
  • Ireland have knocked the two-time World Champions out in some fashion. What a victory for Ireland. A day to remember for them! Ireland qualify for the next round. A one-sided affair and its time for the Windies to pack their bags and go home. Too early for the two-time champions but they were beaten comprehensively.
