Commentary
  • That's it from this nail-biting game. Ireland have sealed the series and would like to complete a whitewash in the third and final game of this ODI series. Join us for that one on 7th July, Sunday. That match will begin 1045 Local (0945 GMT). Till then, take care and cheers!
  • Earlier in the day, Stirling's 52 along with maiden ODI 50s from McCollum and Tucker took the hosts to a fighting and eventually a winning total of 242. Solomon Mire was the star bowler for Zimbabwe picking up a 4-fer.
  • Tim Murtagh! The star of the day. When 15 runs are required off the last 2 overs and there are two set batsmen. 9 times out of 10 the team chasing will win it. The one occasion they won't is when someone bowls an exceptional over. That's exactly what Tim did. He gave away just a single run in the game's penultimate over and also got rid of Donald Tiripano, completely changing the tide of the game. He provided Ireland the early breakthrough they needed earlier in the innings. His consistent lines and lengths were rewarded with wickets. Tim held his nerves in the crunch stages and ended up getting his maiden ODI 5-fer. Shane Getkate and Boyd Rankin with their 2 and 1 wicket apiece were the other two bowler's to get into the wickets column. That was enough for the hosts to take an unassailable lead in the series.
  • Donald Tiripano and Ryan Burl stuck around. They started their fight slowly. Facing off the tough balls but then the duo started accelerating. They played out the good balls but managed to score boundaries off the bad balls. The latter even managed to score his maiden 50 but it was not enough as Zimbabwe fell short at the last hurdle.
  • Chasing 243, Zimbabwe's chase did not get off to a good start. They lost both the openers and Brendon Taylor very early in the innings. Craig Ervine and Sean Williams did show fight but the former fell at the wrong time. Williams then hung around with Raza as Sikander played a quick fire cameo of 31 off just 22 balls but once he fell, Williams too followed soon after getting to his 50. At 160/7 it looked like all was done but then came Tiripano.
  • WHAT A THRILLER! In the end Ireland managed to hold their nerves and get over the line but spare a thought for Ryan Burl. He showed fight, courage but it just wasn't enough.

M Adair to R Burl, OUT! Run Out! How anti climatic is this? Adair bowls it full on middle and leg, Burl lofts his flick to the left of square leg. Getkate in the deep there gets to the ball quickly. Burl was desperate to get the second but Shane releases the ball quickly. It is a bit wide of Tucker at the keeper's end. He dives to disturb the stumps and the umpire raises his finger. Burl's fight comes to an end. He cannot take his side home but what a fight he showed. Take a bow!

Tim Murtagh to D Tiripano, OUT! Bowled! What a sight for a fast bowler to see the stumps rattling. Murtagh bowls one on a length and on the stumps. Tiripano looks to deposit it outside the park but can only manage to miss it and connect with thin air. The ball hits the top of middle stump and the bails fly off. What a bowling performance from him to get to his maiden 5-wicket haul in ODIs. He has been sensational in this match.
