Commentary
  • Right! First PNG. Then Ireland. Then Netherlands. And now, Namibia. Four teams have qualified for the 2020 WT20 in Australia. UAE and Oman have got another chance when they play on Wednesday. Can they grab that opportunity? Join us for another double-header with Scotland meeting UAE at 2.10 pm local (1010 GMT), followed by the Hong Kong-Oman clash at 7.30 pm local (1530 GMT). Do join us. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
  • Victorious Namibian skipper, Gerhard Erasmus, credits the team and staff for the success. Erasmus, says that at 69/5, they needed someone to step up and they had a couple of guys do it. Adds that the Powerplay didn't go their way but Williams kept the run score ticking. Mentions that he wants more people to play the sport back home and adds that that will happen once this side does well on the world stage. Thanks the entire staff for looking after the squad.
  • Oman captain, Zeeshan Maqsood, says that it was a tough game for them. On their superb start, Maqsood says that the innings from Khawar was superb. Says that the ball was not coming on the bat well and hence they could not rotate the strike well. On their match on Wednesday, Zeeshan says that they will try their best to make it to the World Cup. Adds that they will look after where things went wrong for them.
  • JJ Smit gets the MAN OF THE MATCH award for his superb innings. He now chats with Ian Bishop. On the entire proceedings today, Smit says that he is a relieved man right now. Mentions that he has been on the wrong side of the line on a few occasions earlier. Adds that the side never gives up and keeps working hard. On their celebration, Smit says that people back home believed in their unit. Points that people across the world sent them good wishes and they have done it. On his batting, JJ says that the batsman needs to stay focused. Adds that there could always be dots but at the same time, poor balls will come too.
  • Oman will be looking back at that first innings and thinking, what went wrong at 69/5. How come the bowling, which had conceded just 82 in 14 overs, conceded almost the same number of runs in the next 6 overs. Thoughts to ponder. JJ Smit came in at number 7 and blasted 59 from just 25 balls - that is how deep Namibia bat. That influx of Albie Morkel in the coaching staff has been productive, hasn't it? Here comes the presentation.
  • Excellent bowling by Namibia. They stuck to their guns and even though they were taken to the cleaners during the Powerplay, they stuck to their guns. It was a matter of one wicket and that is what happened. Scholtz and Erasmus stifled them after that second wicket, sharing combined figures of 8-0-33-6.
  • Normally, in this tournament, whenever 150 has been crossed, very few times has it been chased. And tonight, was not one of the few. Namibia's acceleration with the bat in the final 6 overs meant that a dangerous score had been reached from Oman's point of view. There was a brief partnership of 57 for the second wicket when Oman had a bit of a chance but once Ilyas was dismissed, the floodgates were opened. After that, it was a procession.
  • The entire Namibian squad is on the ground, hugging their mates who played this match. Elation for them. They have become the fourth team to get their name etched in the WT20 participants in 2020. Oman look disconsolate. They have another chance left though.
