CBSE Board Exam 2026: The Central Board of Secondary Education is preparing to make a big change in the format of the 10th, and 12th examinations. The dates of the CBSE Board Exam 2026 have been fixed as per the draft schedule of the Central Board of Secondary Education. This new system is being started to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. In this, the CBSE class 10 board exam will be conducted twice a year. At the same time, the CBSE class 12 exam will be held only once for now.

When will the CBSE 10th exam be held in 2026?
CBSE Class 10 board exam 2026 will be held in two phases:
The first phase (main exam) will be conducted from 17 February 2026 to 6 March 2026. All students will have to appear for the first phase exam. CBSE 10th result is expected to be declared by 20 April 2026.
After this, the second phase (improvement exam) will be held from 5 May 2026 to 20 May 2026. This is optional and will only include students who want to improve their scores or have failed the first exam. Its result will be released by 30 June 2026.
The CBSE 10th exam duration has been reduced from 32 days to 16-18 days. This means that there will be a gap of 2-3 days between subjects.
CBSE Board 12th Exam 2026 Schedule
The CBSE Class 12 board exams will be held once in 2026:
Exam Date: 17th February 2026 to April 2026.
Main subjects like Maths, Science and Social Science will be examined on fixed dates. Minor subjects will be examined in different phases.
CBSE Board Result 2026: Likely to be declared by 20th May 2026.
How many subjects are there in the CBSE board exams?
The Central Board of Secondary Education has divided the subjects into 3 groups. This helps in simplifying the examination process:
Main subjects: Science, Maths, Social Science, Hindi, and English will be held on fixed dates.
Regional and foreign languages: Rai, Gurung, Tamang French, etc. will have exams on the same day.
Important points related to CBSE Board Exam 2026
Registration: A list of Candidates (LOC) has to be submitted by September 2025. Students have to choose whether they will appear in the first, second, or both exams. The LOC for the second exam will be reopened for 5 days after the result.
Practical/Internal Assessment: This will be done only once and the score will be valid in the second exam as well.
Exam Centre: There will be only one center for both stages. Self-centres will not be allowed.
DigiLocker: The result of the first exam will be available on DigiLocker, but the passing certificate will be issued only after the second exam.
