But before we jump into what lies ahead, here’s a quick refresher on the major events and surprises from Season 2 to help you remember how things left off.
Squid Game season 2 recap- In Squid Game Season 2, Gi-hun uncovers the shocking truth about Player 001, Oh Il-nam was not a helpless old man, but the wealthy mastermind behind the deadly games. As Gi-hun decides to return to the game, the Front Man also enters the arena, this time under the alias “Young-il.” This new identity is deeply influenced by his past as In-ho, a former police officer who lost his wife to liver disease.
- Years earlier, he had donated a kidney to his half-brother Jun-ho, which meant he couldn’t do the same to save his wife. A conversation between Jun-ho and their stepmother reveals this painful history. Meanwhile, viewers are introduced to No-eul (Park Gyu-young), who at first appears to be a potential contestant, but is later revealed to be a pink guard and expert sniper.
- Determined to end the games, Gi-hun teams up with detective Jun-ho. They plan to stay connected through a tracker hidden in Gi-hun’s fake tooth. However, they lose contact once Gi-hun is taken back into the game, prompting Jun-ho and his team to continue the search by boat. During the mission, one of Jun-ho’s men catches Captain Park tampering with a surveillance drone.
- To silence him, the captain kills the crew member and pretends the disturbance was caused by rough waves. Inside the arena, Gi-hun’s close friend Jung-bae becomes an unintended victim, unaware that “Young-il” is actually the Front Man. After staging his own death, the Front Man resumes command, orders the guards to crush the rebellion, and dons his signature black cloak and mask once again.
- In the final moments, Gi-hun and Jung-bae surrender, only for the Front Man to execute Jung-bae in front of Gi-hun to destroy his last shred of hope. The season closes on a devastating note, with Gi-hun injured and emotionally shattered, sobbing beside his fallen friend.
Squid Game season 3 will be released on 27th June 2025 on Netflix.
