Untamed ending explained How did Lucy die?By the end of Untamed, it’s revealed that Lucy Cook died by suicide, not murder. The end of the limited series tells us that Lucy had escaped from Gibbs and returned to Yosemite as a teenager. Around a year before her body was found, Paul had offered to help her find housing. He later tells Kyle that Lucy had been blackmailing him for money, threatening to reveal he was her biological father.
Paul admits to shooting Lucy in the leg, claiming he just wanted to stop her so they could talk. He insists he was "protecting his family," to which Kyle pointedly reminds him that Lucy was part of that family. Consumed by guilt and unable to face the collapse of his reputation, Paul ultimately dies by suicide, choosing not to kill Kyle to keep him silent.
Meanwhile, Kyle uncovers a video on Lucy’s phone in episode 5, showing Shane assaulting her. It’s also revealed that Shane had drawn Lucy into the park’s underground drug operation.
Despite being shot in the abdomen, Kyle managed to get away from Shane temporarily. However, since Kyle was badly wounded and Shane was uninjured, Shane eventually caught up and was ready to kill him. Naya shot Shane once to stop him, but when he turned to attack her, she shot him in the chest, killing him. Kyle was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but survived. Paul, the chief park ranger and Kyle’s friend, and Naya were relieved. Naya informed Kyle that the drugs, weapons, and cash found at Shane’s camp, along with the video of him attacking Lucy, suggested he and Lucy may have had a deal that turned sour, potentially leading to her death.
Meanwhile, Paul called Jill, asking to meet, but she chose to stay home and confess the truth to her husband, Scott, about Shane’s involvement in her and Kyle’s past. Years ago, a man named Sean had abducted and killed Caleb. Shane’s motion-activated wildlife cameras had caught Sean in the act, which led to his arrest.

By confessing everything to Scott, Jill finally stopped pretending she was okay. She gave him the choice to leave her, as Kyle once had. The series doesn’t clarify Scott’s decision, but Jill’s words to Kyle at the hospital suggest Scott chose to stay. In their final conversation, Jill reassures Kyle she’ll be fine, likely acknowledging Scott’s support. She may also be apologising for bringing Shane into their lives for the sake of revenge.
That emotional closure is what ultimately leads Kyle to lie to Esther, the lawyer investigating Sean’s disappearance. Though Kyle ended his marriage because Jill had Sean killed, he chooses not to expose her or Shane, allowing Sean’s family to remain in the dark. While controversial, Kyle saw Jill was already living with guilt and believed justice wouldn’t bring peace to anyone.
