Liquor bottles couriered from Rajasthan, seized

Bootleggers in Ahmedabad have found ingenious ways of getting and supplying liquor. A parcel received by a courier company had 16 liquor bottles in thermocol box wrapped in a blue jute sack.

The Kagdapith police on a tip off reached the Anjani Courier House and seized the parcel that had arrived from Jodhpur.

The police had a tip off that illegal substances are being couriered to one Vijay Chauhan of Krishnanagar and the parcel bore his name, address and cellphone number in Hindi.

The police team reached Anjani Courier house and approached Mahendrabhai Jungi (50), an employee working with the firm. They looked around and found the parcel in a blue jute sack. When they opened the sack, they found 16 bottles besides glass shards from broken bottles in a box. The boxes were packed in thermocol sheets.

Kagdapith police has registered a complaint against Vijay Chauhan and begun investigation. Kagadpith police inspector M A Singh said, “We had been able to locate Vijay Chauhan’s house on the basis of the mobile number on the parcel. He was not at the address with the courier company but at a different address. We suspect he may have been hinted about police tracing the package and has fled his home. We found it locked when we reached there.”
