Dengue kills two boys; Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation goes on drive
Mosquito breeding seen at all 110 spots checked
Two minors-aged 7 and 17-became the latest victims of dengue in the city. The deaths were declared by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation on Monday.
According to available details, the 17-year-old boy, resident of Vasna, was admitted in SVP Hospital.
He died of dengue-induced complications including shock, hemorrhagic fever and hepatopathy. In the second case, the 7-year-old was admitted to LG Hospital. He died due to extended dengue shock syndrome and Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH).
In just 12 days of October, 359 cases of dengue have been registered. The AMC immediately carried out mosquito breeding checks at 110 spots on Monday. Of these, 40 sites were sealed. These included 16 administration offices and 24 shops/offices. Also, 33 of the sealed premises were in Chandkheda alone, while seven were from other areas. Of the remaining, 53 were issued notices and fined while 12, which were either of the civic body or housed in a government building, was issued only notices. The remaining five spots did not get any notice, but were fined.

Bhavin Solanki, in-charge medical health officer of AMC, said they had got to know about the two dengue-related deaths. "Dengue is at its peak. But as monsoon recedes, the cases will also reduce. We are conducting checks at different premises and taking action. We have been issuing notices, sealing sites and levying fines. We are even spreading awareness among households on how to keep the area mosquito-free," he said.
