Single-day testing in Guj surges past 41k

41,647 tests carried out in 24 hours, over 12k higher than Monday’s figure of 29,604; meanwhile 1,118 positive cases reported in State

Onthe day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi exhorted a few states, including Gujarat, to increase Covid-19 testing, the state saw asharp rise in number of tests conducted.

On Tuesday, as many as 41,647 tests were conducted in the state, the highest so far. On Monday, a total of 29,604 samples had been tested. The previous high was 30,985 tests on Sunday.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) had in the morning tweeted that five states had less testing in respect to their positivity rate. These included Bihar, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Telangana.

1,118 cases in State

Of the total tests, as many as 1,118 came out positive on Tuesday. Maximum of these, 236, were in Surat, followed by 150 in Ahmedabad. There were 111 cases in Vadodara, followed by 87 in Rajkot, 55 in Bhavnagar, 44 in Jamnagar, 40 in Bharuch, 35 in Panchmahals, 30 each in Gandhinagar and Amreli, 28 in Gir-Somnath and 27 in Morbi. The state’s overall tally has reached 73,238. Atotal of 23 patients succumbed to the infection, taking the death toll to 2,697.

150 new cases in A’bad

With 150 new cases, Ahmedabad’s tally so far has reached 28,192. Of the total 3,293 active cases in Ahmedabad city till Tuesday morning, the highest, 600, were in north zone. This zone includes areas like Sola, Gota, Bodakdev, Thaltej, Chandlodia, etc. It was followed by west zone (Navrangpura, Naranpura, Ambawdi, Paldi, Vasna and others) with 593 cases. At the third place was south zone (Maninagar, Danilimda, Behrampura, Kankaria, etc) with 494 cases. There were 473 cases in southwest zone (Satellite, Jodhpur, Prahladnagar, Bopal, Ghuma, etc). East zone (Bapunagar, Nikol, Vastral, Rakhial, etc) had 456 cases. North zone (Naroda, Meghaninagar, Sardarnagar, Kubernagar, etc) had 362 cases. The least, 315, were in central zone (Dariapur, Shahpur, Kalupur, Jamalpur, Khadia, etc).

Following government directive, AMC started collecting Rs 1,000 as fine from Tuesday. It nabbed 484 offenders for not wearing masks and collected Rs 4,84,000 from them.

12 new micro-containment areas in city

AMC identified 12 new micro-containment areas in the city and removed 24 from the list on Tuesday. With this, now the city has 241 micro-containment areas at present.

CM apprises PM of Guj’s Covid battle

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Tuesday shared details of efforts to deal with Covid-19 in Gujarat with PM Modi during a meeting of all states via video conference. Deputy CM Nitin Patel also attended the meeting. Rupani stated that recovery rate in Gujarat is over 76%, while the death rate has dropped from 7.8% to 2.1%. Testing is 456 per million, he said..
