Crunchyroll Disables Comments On The Platform & Users Are Not Happy

In a move to create a safer and more respectful community environment, Crunchyroll has announced the disabling of user-generated content, including comments and reviews, across all its platforms.

This decision has been met with a mix of disappointment and criticism from the platform’s dedicated user base.

According to Crunchyroll, the removal of comments and reviews is part of their ongoing efforts to improve user experience.

We are hiding all existing user-generated content, including comments and reviews, across all our platforms and experiences. We’re always striving to enhance the user experience for our fans, including how they connect over the content they love. We encourage fans to share comments and connect with other fans on our social media channels,” the company stated.

However, the user ratings system remains intact, allowing fans to express their opinions through star ratings.

The decision has sparked a wave of discontent among Crunchyroll users, who took to various social media platforms to voice their frustration.

Many users expressed that the comments section was a vital aspect of their viewing experience, a place where they could share their excitement and connect with others who share their interests.

With the new update, they felt that the very feature that distinguished Crunchyroll from other platforms has been lost.

While Crunchyroll has not explicitly stated the reason behind this drastic measure, users speculated that the decision may have been driven by recent incidents involving toxic comments, particularly concerning the recent LGBTQ+ anime.

They argued that this could have been managed with more effective moderation rather than a complete shutdown of the comments feature.

However, not everyone shared this opinion, as there were users who appreciated this move due to the growing toxicity in the comment sections of yaoi/yuri anime.
