You & I Are Polar Opposites, RuriDragon & Kagurabachi Among Winners Of 4th Magademy Awards
The 4th annual Magademy Awards, hosted by BookLive, announced winners across several categories during a ceremony held May 14, 2025, in Tokyo.
The awards, established in 2021, was initially focused on celebrating manga characters. However, the 4th instalment of the awards featured a major revamp, with the goal now shifting to spotlight titles so that readers can enjoy more manga works.
The category for the 4th Magademy awards included the Work of the Year Award, recognizing overall excellence; the Setting/Worldbuilding Award for unique themes and settings; the Emotional Resonance Award for works that evoke strong feelings; the Craftsmanship Award for exceptional authorial skill; and the Cover Impact Award, aimed at highlighting the role of cover art in enjoying manga. A Special Jury Award was also presented.
The Magademy Award recipients for 2025 included:
- Work of the Year: You and I Are Polar Opposites by Kocha Agasawa (SHUEISHA).
- World-Building Award: RuriDragon by Masaoki Shindo (SHUEISHA).
- Emotional Resonance Award: Spacewalking with You by Inuhiko Doronoda (KODANSHA).
- Craftsmanship Award: Kagurabachi by Takeru Hokazono (SHUEISHA).
- Cover Impact Award: Shiba Inu Rooms by S Omori (SHUEISHA).
- Special Jury Award: The Long Summer of August 31st by Kakkaku Itō (KODANSHA).
Winners were determined through a selection process that combined votes from booksellers, professional judges, and the general public. TV personality Ami Kikuchi and comedy duo Time Machine No. 3 presented the trophies during the ceremony.
Eligible manga for the 2025 awards were titles released or scheduled for released in 2024, with no more than 10 volumes published at the time of consideration.
