The 2020 Mahindra XUV 500 has been spotted testing. The new XUV 500 that will launch by the middle of next year is an all-new product based on a new platform, one that it shares with the upcoming Ssangyong Korando.

The new platform has a number of benefits, the most noticeable of which is the increase in legroom, especially for the third row. The interior is also expected to get a number of features from the Korando, including a fully digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, ventilated seats, and a panoramic sunroof.

Features that will carry over from the current generation are a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, driver’s seat with memory function, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry and go, etc.

It is expected that the new XUV 500 will get a much-improved ride and handling characteristics, fixing one of the weaknesses of the current platform. It will also get a more powerful BS-Vl compliant 2-liter diesel engine, which should generate around 180 bhp. FWD and AWD transmissions will be on offer, as will manual and automatic gearboxes.

The new Mahindra XUV 500 is expected to be unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo in February, at least in concept form. It is then scheduled for a launch later in the year, and it will compete with the likes of the Jeep Compass, the seven-seat version of the MG Hector, and also the seven-seat version of the Tata Harrier, the Tata Gravitas. The XUV 500 will receive a price hike over the current one, so expect pricing to start at the Rs 13 - 14 lakh mark.
