India lost the opening Test of the five-match series to England at Headingley, Leeds. Though India amassed over 800 runs in both innings, their bowlers were unable to prevent England from pursuing the total. Jasprit Bumrah alone was impressive with the ball. He delivered 44 overs in the match and even picked up five wickets in the first innings.

But the rest of the bowlers, Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur included, could not make their presence felt. They took just 10 wickets between them across both innings, and India could not defend a large score.

Mohammed Shami said:

"In bowling, other Indian bowlers should talk to Bumrah and learn from him. They should talk about planning with him and support him. If they will support Bumrah, then we can easily win the match. If I talk about the first match, then I think we need to do a little work in the bowling."

The pacer added:

"Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna picked up two wickets each in the 2nd innings, but by the time Shardul dismissed two England batters, the match was out of India’s reach."

Shami Says Bowlers Must Support Bumrah

elder pacer Mohammed Shami, recuperating from injury, expressed his opinion on his YouTube channel. He stated that the other Indian bowlers need to take a leaf from Bumrah and make him stronger. He made it clear that Bumrah alone can't win matches.

Shami also said that the Indian batters are performing well in English conditions, but the team is losing due to bad bowling and fielding. His main message was clear, "Bumrah ka saath dena hoga" (Bumrah needs support).

Shami said:

"Everyone says that batting in England is difficult, but our batters are doing fine, and we need to think more about bowling and fielding. Bumrah ka saath dena hoga. It is very important to take wickets with the new ball. Bhut zaruri hai ki Bumrah ka koi saath de. England won the first Test because we gave too many easy runs. We need to find out how to make our bowling side strong."
