The glorious opening batter Shikhar Dhawan revealed his day when he took his final call from international cricket and called Ishan Kishan's double hundred the main reason. Often tagged as "Mr. ICC" for stepping up in big tournaments, Dhawan forecast his end in 2022 in the Bangladesh tour when he managed 18 runs, but his young teammate became the only fourth Indian to have a 200.

Speaking to the Hindustan Times, Dhawan said that he was chill, but still friends came to support him. In the interview he said,

"I was scoring lots of 50s, I didn’t score a 100 but I scored lots of 70s. When Ishan Kishan scored that 200, my instinct told me, alright boy, this can be the end of your career. An inner voice came to me. And that’s what happened. Then I remember my friends came over to you know, give me that emotional support. They thought that I would be very down. But I was chilling, I was enjoying."

I am used to getting dropped: Shikhan Dhawan

Following the series, Shikhar Dhawan was dropped permanently from the squad. However, when he asked if he was communicated about that, Dhawan replied that things dont work like that. And he is used to these scenarios from the Under-14 cricket matches. He said,

“No, it doesn’t happen that way (teammates messaging after someone being dropped). Maybe I spoke to Rahul (Dravid) bhai. He messaged me. Everyone has their own journey and they are doing work or they are on tours, that’s something very normal. We are used to it from the age of under 14, this is not the first time I am getting dropped or getting in."

Shikhar Dhawan retired in August 2024, ending a stellar ODI career. Nicknamed ‘Mr. ICC’, he scored 6793 runs in 167 ODIs, excelling in global tournaments with a 65 average.
