Six Ducks and Two 150s! England Create Never-Seen-Before Test Record

England created a bizarre bit of history in the 2nd Test against India at Birmingham's Edgbaston. While, on the one hand, six of their batters were dismissed for duck (zero), on the other hand, two of their batters, Harry Brook and Jamie Smith, scored more than 150 each in the same inning.

Never before in the annals of Test cricket has any team recorded six ducks and two personal scores of 150+ in a single innings.

Brook and Smith Excel, Others Go for Duck

Harry Brook scored an excellent innings of 158 runs with remarkable control and shot choice under stress. On the other end, Jamie Smith scored 184 runs, spearheading England's resistance after getting to 84/5 at one point.

But the innings also included six English batters walking back without scoring. The English players who were dismissed for a duck against India in 1st innings of 2nd Test are Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Ben Stokes, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, Shoaib Bashir.

Before this inning against India, England had achieved five ducks in an innings four times in their Test history. But this was the first instance when they finished with six.

Unusual Numbers in England’s Unpredictable Innings

Despite of this meltdown, Brook and Smith's high scores helped England to post 407 on the board, proving how unpredictable Test cricket is. However, in the history of Test cricket, this total of over 400 is the least by any team to have a partnership of 300+ in it. Also, it is the lowest total for England even after having two 150+ scores.

This is also just the second instance for England when they managed to score over 400 after losing their five batters under the score of 100. The last time was against the India's neighbouring nation Pakistan when England had gone from 47/5 to 446 all-out at Lord’s in 2010.
