Xiaomi partners Germany's Leica for mobile imaging

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Monday said it has partnered with German camera and lensmaker Leica for mobile imaging.

Xiaomi’s first flagship smartphone with Leica optics will launch in July this year, the company said in an official statement, without disclosing further details.

“Both companies are eager to continuously explore the optical performance and photographic experience in the mobile imaging era through extreme technological breakthroughs and aesthetic pursuits,” the statement added.

Lei Jun, founder, chairman and CEO of Xiaomi Group said the partnership will boost Xioami’s imaging strategy.

“During the cooperation, from optical design to tuning aesthetic orientations, the innovative technologies, product philosophies and imaging preferences of both parties have experienced unprecedented in-depth collision and fusion,” Jun added.
