Flyers acquire Trevor Zegras in trade with Ducks ahead of 2025 NHL draft
The Philadelphia Flyers are set to acquire forward Trevor Zegras from the Anaheim Ducks. In return, the Ducks will receive centre Ryan Poehling, the Blue Jackets’ 2025 second-round pick (No. 45 overall), and Philadelphia’s 2026 fourth-round pick in return. The Flyers announced the deal on their X account.
“OFFICIAL: We have acquired forward Trevor Zegras in exchange for forward Ryan Poehling, the 45th pick in the 2025 NHL Draft and a 2026 4th-round pick,” Flyers wrote. Zegras, 24, is entering the final season of a three-year, $17.25 million deal with an annual cap hit of $5.75 million, according to TSN. He is slated to become a restricted free agent next summer.
While playing for the Ducks in the 2024-2025 season, the centre forward had 12 goals and 32 points in 57 games. He missed 22 games due to a torn meniscus. After trading Zegras, Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek said, “I want to thank Trevor for his contributions and efforts over the last six years.”
“While this was a difficult trade to make, we have and will continue to look at retooling our roster over the next couple of months, and this transaction is part of that process. We wish Trevor the best of luck with the Flyers," he added.
Zegras was named the EA Sports NHL cover athlete in 2023. He was drafted ninth overall by the Ducks in 2019. In 268 career games, Zegras has 67 goals and 186 points. He represented the United States at the 2024 World Championship in Czechia. During the tournament, he recorded a goal and two points.
The forward has also led his national side to a gold medal at the 2021 World Juniors, where he scored seven goals and 18 points in seven games. He was named tournament MVP.
