Apple's Sabih Khan latest in series of Big Tech's Indian-origin executives
Apple has elevated Indian-origin Sabih Khan, who has been with the company for 30 years, to the position of chief operating officer (COO). Khan, from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, will take over the role from Jeff Williams. He rose through the ranks at the iPhone maker, where he joined the executive team as senior vice president of operations in 2019.
Among its senior ranks, Apple also appointed Kevan Parekh as chief financial officer (CFO) effective January 1 this year. He is also a veteran, having played key roles across finance and product marketing at the company for 11 years.
But Apple is not the only one. For long, tech majors in Silicon Valley have had Indian-origin persons at the helm.
Alphabet: Chennai-born Sundar Pichai has been the chief executive of the Google parent since 2015. He has driven major initiatives across artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, quantum computing, Android and important acquisitions like Nest Labs.
YouTube: Neal Mohan, the Indian-American business executive, took the helm of Google's video streaming platform in February 2023. He had been YouTube's product officer since 2015, and played a key role in launching YouTube Shorts, YouTube Music and its subscription programmes.

Microsoft:Satya Nadella, from Hyderabad, has been in the top position at the software giant since 2014. He joined the company in 1992.
IBM: Arvind Krishna, CEO and president at IBM, hails from Andhra Pradesh and has led the company's cloud and AI efforts.
Adobe: Shantanu Narayen has been leading the creative software giant Adobe since 2007.
Palo Alto Networks: Nikesh Arora, an Indian-origin business leader, has been leading the cybersecurity major Palo Alto Networks since June 2018. He has held roles across finance and technology in firms like Fidelity Investments, Google and SoftBank.
Micron Technology: Sanjay Mehrotra has been the chairman, president, and CEO of the semiconductor memory and storage company since May 2017. He cofounded SanDisk Corporation in 1988 and served as its president and CEO from 2011 until it was acquired by Western Digital in 2016.
